Jothe Jotheyalli

T his film continued the trend of actors making a success as producer-directors. This time, it was the charismatic Darshan, who has some impressive hits to his credit, who turned producer, launching his brother Dinakar as director. Darshan produced Jothe Jotheyalli with Ramya as the female lead and Nenapirali Prem as the hero; the film is currently edging towards the 100-day mark and is slated to be the year's biggest hit after My Autograph.

The film was made in a reasonable budget of around Rs. 1.40 crore, and is expected to do business of around Rs. 4 crore. Debutant music director Hari Krishna's tunes powered the film to success; even the lyrics and script made news. For cameraman Venus Murthy, it was his second outing.

For leading actress Ramya, the year has been quite good, with many of her films hitting the mark at the box office. She thus continued her successful run of 2005. The film also catapulted Nenapirali Prem into the big leagues. What made the film a hit with audiences was a storyline that revolved around a young couple whose lives hit traumatic troughs before they realize, in the midst of divorce proceedings, that for all their differences they cannot remain apart from each other.

The comedy sequences, the screen presence of Ramya and above all support Prem received from his female fans did the trick as far as the film is concerned.
