Cricket Ganesha bats, bowls and fields for Team India

March 14, 2007
When one reached Ramakrishnan's residence exactly six years after the installation of Cricket Ganesha, on March 11, 2007, one could hear music. Not ordinary music, it was a kind of prayer.

Ramakrishnan told me then that the song Khel honge is a song by the Lord himself for the players. "I have composed music for bhajans in praise of Cricket God and the cassette is now marketed in Chennai for the fans to sing during matches. One song is for the fans to sing before God requesting him also to play cricket for Team India."

Ramakrishnan maintains that Cricket Ganesha is now looked upon as the 33rd incarnation of Lord Ganesh. "Like Heramba Ganapathy, Bala Ganapathy, Trimukha Ganapathy, Dvimukha Ganapathy and so on, this is his new avatar. Like the three-faced Dhvija Ganapathy and five-faced Heramba Ganapathy, the 11-faced Cricket Maha Ganapathy (Ekadasa Sirasa Trilochana Cricket Mahaganapathi) should be worshipped for team spirit and the continued success of Indian Cricket."
