Why a Konkani song? "What you usually hear in ads is either North Indian/Bollywood music or classical music. We wanted to show the fun side of Indian music like in Konkani music. We have our own rock 'n' roll history, you know. So the track is a reinvention of old Goan music," says its composer Ram Sampath, 31, who has scored the music for films Khakee, Let's Talk and numerous commercials.
"The ad depicts aggressive energy needed to play the game in the spirit of the game. The reason it worked is because it has certain energy. There was a guitar, trumpet and Ella Castellino, the singer. I had to capture the energy of what Abhinay had shot. While working for this, I think, all of us were at the peak of our creative form."
Time taken to compose the track: The initial composition took around two days. The final track was finished in 2 hours.
Lyrics (Translated from Konkani):
'Wait, partner, wait
First let me play
If you don't play, I'll keep chasing you all day
Our game is like this only
Where we have no time to think
It is the game of cat and mouse
That I have begun to love
And in the falling running breaking
My destiny is entwined'
"Initially, we were a little hesitant about how Portland would react," says Agnello Dias, "but they loved it."
Inset: Ram Sampath, the composer
