Asian Games Updates: India's Skeet Shooters Win Bronze

India added another shooting medal on Wednesday as Anantjeet Singh Naruka, Mairaj Ahmed Khan and Bhavtegh Singh Gill won bronze in the men's skeet team event.

The Indian trio finished with a combined score of 346, level with Kazakhstan for third place. India then prevailed in the shoot-off to claim the bronze.

Mirabai Chanu will have a chance to fill one of the few gaps in her glittering career when she competes in the women's 53kg event at the Asian Games shortly.

The two-time Olympian and World champion is yet to win an Asian Games medal.

Men's Skeet Shooting

Anant Jeet Singh Naruka has qualified for the men's skeet final after scoring 119 in the qualification round.

He finished joint fourth in the standings to book his place in the medal round.

India's women's kabaddi team made it back-to-back victories at the Asian Games, beating Iran 37-23 after an earlier 42-21 win over Bangladesh.

India had a difficult start against Iran and trailed 9-11 with six minutes left in the first half. But the team gradually found its rhythm, with Bhavna Devi making some crucial tackles and Pooja contributing valuable points.

India turned the game around before the break, taking a 19-15 lead into half-time. They maintained their momentum after the restart and pulled further away from Iran to complete a comfortable 37-23 victory.

Manu Bhaker produced another huge 10.8 to briefly climb to third and put herself firmly in the medal fight.

The final was incredibly tight, with just 0.1 separating Manu, Jiang Ranxin and Cheng Yen-Ching. Shen Yiyao was only 0.2 ahead of Manu, leaving almost nothing between the shooters.

But the fight ended soon after. Manu could manage only 9.6 with her 18th shot and was eliminated in fifth place.

A dramatic finish for the double Olympic medallist, who fought hard to stay in contention right until the end.

Manu Bhaker is keeping herself alive in the women's 10m air pistol final after a tense series of shots.

She dropped to sixth after a 9.2 on her 13th shot and was level with Vietnam's Nguyen Thuy Trang. But just when she needed it most, Manu produced a clutch 10.8 to move ahead by 0.2 and survive another elimination.

She then hit a 10.0 before responding with another pressure shot -- a 10.3 -- while Nguyen managed only 9.2. The Vietnamese shooter was eliminated, allowing Manu to move up to fifth.

After 14 shots, Manu is on 160.7 and remains in the fight. Choo Gaeun leads on 164.1, followed by Shen Yiyao (162.2), Cheng Yen-Ching (161.8) and Jiang Ranxin (161.6).

Manu Bhaker is in action in the women's 10m air pistol final.

She made a solid start, opening with a 9.9 before hitting 10.6 and 9.5. She appeared to take a little extra time over the third shot but still managed 50.8 in the opening five-shot series, putting her third at that stage.

The second series has been more difficult. Manu began with a 10.2 and followed it with a 9.9 before an 8.9 dropped her into the bottom half of the leaderboard.

After 10 shots, Manu and Shen Yiyao are tied on 100.3.

India added another shooting medal to its Asian Games tally, winning bronze in the women's skeet team event at the Aichi-Nagoya Games.

Raiza Dhillon, Parinaaz Dhaliwal and Maheshwari Chauhan finished third with a combined score of 331. Raiza and Parinaaz shot 111 each out of 125, while Maheshwari finished with 109.

China won gold with 346, while Kazakhstan took silver.

Jay Meena scripted history on Wednesday by becoming the first Indian to secure an Asian Games medal in soft tennis. 

He reached the semifinals at the Aichi-Nagoya Games to assure India of at least a bronze.

India's Parvathy Geetha and Phairembam Soniya Devi have made it through to the women's kayak double 500m semifinals.

The Indian pair clocked 2:02.538 in Heat A, finishing last in the heat and 14.820 seconds behind the leaders, but still doing enough to progress to the semifinals.

Olympic double medallist Manu Bhaker has done it again when it mattered most.

The Indian shooter qualified for the women's 10m air pistol final in third place with a score of 579-20x. She had a shaky start but settled down as the qualification progressed.

The final is at 9 AM IST, with Bhaker's hopes of becoming an Asian champion in shooting still very much alive.

India's Harshwardhan Shaktawat, Varinder Singh, L Naocha Singh Oinam and Arun Singh finished third in their men's kayak four 500m heat to book a place in the final.

The Indian quartet clocked 1:29.447, finishing 5.594 seconds behind heat winners China. Their third-place finish was enough to secure a spot in the medal race.
