Two superb saves from captain paved the way for the Spanish triumph against Italy in the quarter-finals.
It was for the first time in 24 years that Spain reached the final four of a major tournament and the 'curse of the quarter-finals' was done away with.
Casillas, who has been dubbed 'San Iker' by Real Madrid fans in the past, saved from both Daniele De Rossi and Antonio Di Natale.
He was hardly troubled in the semi-fianl or the final and went on to become the first goalkeeper to lift the Henri Delauney Trophy as his team's captain.
