Torres made a few run-ins but was mostly kept at bay by the Italians. The Liverpool player was substituted in the second half by Mallorca's Daniel Guiza. The latter made his sixth international appearance for Spain.
Panucci, was at his best as ever, even at 35. The Roma defender had promised to shoulder the entire defensive responsibilities before the match. He kept his word.
