Hingis, who arrived in Dubai on Friday, said she struggled to find her rhythm.
"I'm happy to be through, to be honest. It wasn't the greatest match I've played, but I'm through," the Swiss former world number one said.
"I felt I had the game under control and whenever I needed it I was able to step it up," Hingis added.
