Wimbledon 2005, Day 7
Like a cat stalking her prey, Maria Sharapova lay in wait for Nathalie Dechy's moment of distraction at Wimbledon on Monday before pouncing to win 6-4, 6-2.
Sharapova has not lost on grass for two years. She has won the Birmingham warm-up tournament twice and beaten title holder Serena Williams at Wimbledon last year in a memorable final for her first grand slam victory at only 17 years old.
"Once you are in the second week mentally and physically you have to be much tougher," Sharapova said. "But I'm really excited ... I love being out there. I love competing especially here."
