U.S Open champion and fifth seed Svetlana Kuznetsova battled her way into the third round with an error-strewn 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 victory over Indian teenager Sania Mirza.
The victory on Centre Court was revenge for Kuznetsova, who was beaten by Mirza the last time they met in Dubai earlier this year.
Mirza made history as the first Indian woman to make it through to the second round at Wimbledon.
