Statistical Highlights 1st match: India v West Indies at Toronto on 11-9-99

This match was the 1497th in Limited overs international (LOI) history.

This match was India's 414th and West Indies's 377th in LOIs.

This match was the 61st meeting between the two sides.

This match was the 17th to be played at this venue and by India. West Indies were appearing here for the first time. It became the third team after India and Pakistan to play here.

South African umpire Dave Orchard was officiating in his 48th match, while Australian Darrell Harper was in his 19th match. It was Harper's first match on a foreign soil.

Jacob Martin became India's 125th LOI player, while Chris Gayle and Corey Collymore became the 96th and the 97th player to appear for the Windies.

At 19 years 355 days, Gayle became the second youngest to appear for the West Indies in LOIs. The youngest being Darren Ganga, who was just two days younger to Gayle at 19 years 353 days when he appeared for thefirst time at Cape Town against South Africa on 2-2-1999.

Martin's three catches in the match equals the maximum by an Indian fielder against the West Indies. Manoj Prabhakar at Sharjah on 22-10-1991 had also taken three catches.

Incidentally, Martin became the fourth fieldsman in LOI history to take three catches on debut. The others are Bishen Bedi (v England at Leeds, 13-7-1974), Martin Crowe (v Australia at Auckland, 13-2-1982) and Laxman Sivaramakrishanan (v Pakistan at Melbourne, 20-2-1985).

Nikhil Chopra's figures of 10-3-17-3 was the most economical bowling analysis by an Indian bowler (bowling his full quota of overs) against the West Indies in LOIs. The previous best was Kapil Dev's 10-3-18-2 in the Hero Cup final at Calcutta on 27-11-1993.

Venkatesh Prasad's wicket of Walsh was his 150th of his career in 126 matches. He becomes the fifth Indian (also the third from Karnataka) and the 21st bowler in LOI history.

Courtney Walsh's wicket of Dravid was his 221st of his career, which makes him the highest wicket-taker for the West Indies in LOIs. He bettered the tally of 220 wickets of Curtly Ambrose. Walsh was playing in his 197th match, while Ambrose has achieved his tally in 165 matches.

It was India's first victory over the Windies in eight matches. In the last seven matches India had lost six, while one match was declared as no-result. India had last won by a better run-rate at Port of Spain on 27-4-1997.

The man of the match award was Ganguly's 15th of his career, of which six such awards have come at this venue, where no other player has ever received more than one.
