Floods submerge Thoubal, Imphal and Bishnupur
Flash floods submerged three districts in Manipur, rendering thousands homeless and engulfing about 50,000
acres of standing paddy crops.
Reports from Thoubal, Imphal
and Bishnupur said 10,000 houses were under
water. A long stretch along river Imphal's embankment has been washed away. Flood and Irrigation department officials are fighting the calamity.
In Thoubal, the Wangjing and Thoubal rivers wrought havoc, while in Bishnupur it was the Manbul, Lokchao and Moirans rivers.
The famous Loktak lake is also overflowing,
While the water
level in northern Manipur is receding, it is rising in the southern parts.
