Most high-tech Chinese nuke technology for Pak
China plans to export a sophisticated simulated nuclear power plant control room to Pakistan to help Islamabad train staff, an official report said on Monday.
The P300 full-scale simulated control room is the biggest and
most high-tech China has ever developed and the first it has sent
overseas, the Xinhua news agency said.
The development is shocking considering that only last year, China undertook not to ship nuclear technology to other countries's facilities that are not subject to international inspections.
The United States has raised concern that China in the past may
have supplied Pakistan with technology that could be used for
making nuclear weapons.
Xinhua said the equipment was recently checked and approved by
Chinese and foreign experts in Shanghai. It gave no details on the
experts or the checks they had performed.
Shen Zengyao, director of an atomic engineering institute in
Shanghai that developed the equipment, said the control room was
specifically designed to train nuclear power plant operators, Xinhua added.
