Spy arrested with secret defence documents in Delhi

The Customs arrested a Kashmiri militant on Thursday, when he was trying to fly from New Delhi to the United Arab Emirates with secret defence documents.

The documents, including details of military deployment on the Indo-Pak border, were to be delivered to a Pakistani national in Dubai.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police S Prakash, Syed Liaquat Ali is believed to be a member of a gang involved in selling secret defence information to aliens.

Liaquat, settled in Dubai in 1995, had collected the packet containing the documents from an unidentified person on the instructions of a Pakistani national, Asraf Bilal, staying in the United Arab Emirates.

He was to get Rs 100,000 on delivery of the documents to Bilal.

During interrogation, Liaquat confessed to having received arms training in Pakistan from 1990 to 1992 and that he was a member of the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, a militant outfit.
