Gujral meets the Pope

Prime Minister Inder Kumar Gujral on Thursday met Pope John Paul II at the Vatican. Gujral called on the Pope soon after his arrival in Rome from New York.

Gujral, who was accompanied by his wife Shiela, Finance Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram and other members of the Indian delegation, spent 20 minutes with the pontiff.

The PM is on his way back home after addressing the United Nations general assembly and a three-day visit to Tanzania.

During his day's stay in Rome, Gujral is scheduled to meet his Italian counterpart Romano Prodi and also call on President Oscar Luigi.
