6 more districts in Gujarat

In a calculated move aimed at appeasing the Congress, Gujarat Chief Minister Shankarsinh Vaghela on Wednesday announced the creation of six more districts and 48 talukas.

Talking to the media soon after the cabinet meeting, the chief minister said that Navsari district will be created from Valsad, Narmada from Bharuch, Dahod--Godhra from Panchmahals, Kheda from Anand, Patan from Mehsana and Porbandar from Junagadh.

Vaghela said the new districts and talukas will become operational from October 2.

With this, the number of districts in the state has gone up to 25 and that of talukas to 230.
