Indo-Pak talks futile: Farooq

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah on Thursday says the Indo-Pak talks will not lead anywhere.

"The talks will not solve the miseries of the people or overcome their problems like unemployment and better amenities," he said in Srinagar, at a public function.

Lashing out at Pakistan, especially in the light of the Rajouri killings, he said the economy of the state, particularly tourism and industry, have suffered immensely because of enemy action.

"Women have been dishonoured and innocents killed at Pakistan's behest," Dr Abdullah said, "But Pakistan will never succeed in grabbing an inch of Indian soil. One thousand million people are behind this part of the nation."

Pakistan, the CM continued, was ''making the people of Jammu and Kashmir fodder of their cannon.'The talks will lead us nowhere," he said.
