One killed, 100 trapped as mine caves in

One person was killed and nearly 100 people were feared trapped when a portion of a coal mine caved in this afternoon near Bhalumuda village in Shahdol district of Madhya Pradesh.

According to the district police control room, Rajiv Ranjan,manager of South Eastern Coalfields Limited's coal mine number five, was killed in the accident. Two miners have been rescued.

Police sources said rescue and relief operations were in full swing with help from the Special Armed Force and Home Guard personnel.

Shahdol Collector T Dharmarao, superintendent of police and other senior police and administrative officials have reached the spot.
