Indo-Pak foreign secretary-level talks from Monday

The third round of foreign secretary-level talks between India and Pakistan will take place in New Delhi from September 15 to 18, an external affairs spokesman announced on Friday.

At the invitation of Foreign Secretary K Raghunath, his Pakistani counterpart Shamshad Ahmad will be in New Delhi during this period.

The meeting between the two foreign secretaries assumes significance in the light of Prime Minister Inder Kumar Gujral's visit to the United States to address the United Nations General Assembly.

Gujral is likely to have discussions with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharief in New York although no date has yet been fixed.

Meanwhile, Pakistan foreign ministry spokesman Tariq Altaf on Friday said they received ''partially satisfactory clarification'' from New Delhi about the proposed peace talks. He made it clear that Kashmir would be discussed at the talks.

Asked about the possibility of a Gujral-Sharief meeting in New York, Altaf said, ''It was hoped the meeting would take place.''
