AP film-maker Dasari surrenders before court in IT case
Famed Telugu film-maker Dasari Naryana Rao on Tuesday surrendered before a Madras court in an income tax case. The charge against Rao is that he wilfully failed to file income tax returns for 1985-86.
Recalling a non-bailable warrant issued against Dasari last year, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate V Periakarupaiah directed the film-maker to appear before the court every day at 10.30 am.
The judge refused to exempt Dasari from personal appearance as he had failed to appear before the court for a long time despite several summons. It is not known why the non-bailable warrant has not been executed to date. The case was registered on March 22, 1989, under Section 276(C) of the IT Act.
