NCO killed in border firing

One non-commissioned officer of the army was killed in an exchange of fire between Indian and Pakistani troops along the Line of Control around Krishna Ghati in Poonch district on Sunday, a defence spokesperson said.

Pakistani troops fire on Indian positions along the border, killing an NCO and Indian troops retaliated, the spokesperson said. It could not be ascertained whether any Pakistani army personnel was killed or injured in the firing.

The spokesman described the incident as a regular skirmish between the Indian and Pakistani troops near the border, clarifying that it was not a case of "escalated exchange".

Meanwhile, troops apprehended a hard-core militant of the outlawed Hizbul Mujahideen, following an encounter in Tandora forests of Doda district on Saturday night, he said.

One rocket launcher, one radio set and ammuntion were recovered, he added.
