Govt staff unions give indefinite strike notice

Thousands of government employees went on casual leave on Thursday, crippling work in the central secretariat and other offices.

Several unions also gave notice for an indefinite strike from September 24. They demand that the anomalies in the Fifth Pay Commission report be removed.

Among the unions which served the indefinite strike notice are the Federation of Central Secretariat and Allied Offices Employees and various railway unions.

Addressing a rally in New Delhi, Janata Dal president Sharad Yadav, Communist Party of India-Marxist general secretary Harkishan Singh Surjeet, Communist Party of India leader Gurudas Dasgupta, and Bharatiya Janata Party vice-president Madan Lal Khurana extended their support to the employees in achieving the just demands.
