Gujral's gesture to girl child

Prime Minister Inder Kumar Gujral on Thursday announced a novel scheme for the girl child's education as part of the government's efforts to stamp out illiteracy.

Addressing national award-winning teachers, Gujral said the government would support every girl child from October 2, the Gandhi Jayanti Day.

''Teachers must lay emphasis on scientific temper. Even if a school could create one Radhakrishnan in the next ten years, that would be a major contribution to the future of India,'' he added.
