Scindia among 5 new Congress general secretaries

Congress president Sitaram Kesri on Thursday appointed Madhavrao Scindia, Meira Kumar, Tariq Anwar, R K Dhawan and Oscar Fernandes as party general secretaries.

Ahmed Patel has been retained as treasurer.

Kesri has also appointed Madhavsinh Solanki as a permanent invitee to the Congress Working Committee.

Announcing the office-bearers's names, party deputy spokesman Ajit Jogi said their appointment would be with immediate effect.

Tariq Anwar will no longer be the Congress president's political secretary.

All the general secretaries except Dhawan are members of Parliament.

Jitendra Prasada would continue as the vice-president.

Of the six outgoing general secretaries, three have been retained; the ones dropped are Ghulam Nabi Azad, Sudhakar Naik and Solanki.

All the new general secretaries are Kesri loyalists and CWC members.
