12 dead as bus plunges into river in MP

Rescuers recovered 11 bodies of the 40 passengers who were feared drowned after their bus plunged into Kail river near Chhatrapur, Madhya Pradesh.

Official sources said the district administration has sought the army's help for carrying out rescue and relief operations.

Police divers have already started the rescue operations and the necessary equipment, including army cranes, have reached the accident spot to retrieve the bus from the river bed.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police Chetram Radhoria, three of the rescued have been admitted to a hospital in an unconscious state.

The jam-packed bus, which was coming from Mahoba in Uttar Pradesh, plunged into the river when its driver tried to cross a flooded area.

The rivers in Chhatrapur district are in spate following heavy rains in the region since Sunday.
