Violence over Haryana police firing escalates

Bharatiya Kisan Union activists continued with their violent protests against the six police firing deaths in Mandiali, Mahendergarh district.

Reports said that protestors set ablaze the Dhamtana Sahib railway station between Jakhal and Narwanain in Jind district on Friday night. They also damaged some property at the nearby Kalwan railway station.

The agitation has disrupted rail and bus services in Jind district.

The farmers also set on fire a mini bank in Dhamtana Sahib.

The Hisar deputy police commissioner has promulgated Section 144 in the district for two months following the torching of a state-owned bus near Kanhari village in Tohana sub division.

In Kalayat town, which was rocked by unprecedented arson two days back, the police have registered four cases of arson, rioting and attempt to murder.

Meanwhile, the Haryana Sarvkhap Panchayat gave a call for a statewide strike on October 25 in protest against the police firing on farmers last week.

Held under the chairmanship of Chaubisi Sarvkhap Panchyat president Surat Singh, the panchayat passed eight resolutions, copies of which were handed over to Rohtak Deputy Police Commissioner Anil Kumar.

The panchayat has demanded payment of Rs 500,000 each to the families of those killed in the police firing, a government job each for every affected family, registration of criminal cases against officials responsible for the firing, a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into the firing and replacement of damaged power transformers in Satnali area.
