Gujarat CM seeks early SC verdict on Narmada

Gujarat Chief Minister Shankarsinh Vaghela has urged the Supreme Court to gave an early verdict on the Narmada project.

Inaugurating the first-ever lok darbar at Bhuj in Kutch district, the chief minister warned that the state's 40.5 million thirsty population cannot wait endlessly for the judgment.

The Narmada Bachao Andolan leaders moved the Supreme Court on behalf of the project-affected people more than two years ago, he said.

Hoping that the apex court's judgment would favour the drought-affected Kutch, Vaghela said the region would get Narmada water through gravitation flow.

Drought forces thousands of people to migrate and the government has to spend millions of rupees every year to provide relief, he added.
