St Kitts case proceedings stayed

The Delhi high court on Wednesday stayed trial court proceedings in the St Kitts forgery case, in which former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao has recently been discharged.

The interim stay, given to retain the evidence, was granted by Justice Anil Dev Singh while hearing two criminal revision petitions against the discharge of Rao and former Union minister K K Tewary.

The petitions were filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation and the People's Union for Civil Liberties. Chandra Swami and his secretary Kailash Nath Aggarwal also moved the court, challenging the framing of charges against them in the case.

The request for interim stay was made by senior advocate P R Vakil, appearing for the CBI.

The judge adjourned the case to October 27.
