The queen's itinerary
The queen is to spend three days each in the north and south of India during her visit while her husband, Prince Phillip, will cover the east and west.
The queen will also pay homage to the fallen heroes, visit pilgrimage centres, and go around the British-aided projects during her six-day stay in the country.
The British monarch will arrive in Amritsar on October 14 and place a wreath at Jallianwala Bagh -- the scene of the massacre in 1919 during the freedom struggle. She will then proceed to the Golden Temple, the holiest shrine of the Sikhs.
In Delhi, the queen will open the 'Indo-British partnership: Towards 2000' exhibition at Pragati Maidan and pay floral tributes at the Delhi war cemetery. She will also attend a function on October 15 at the Charbagh Avenue in the council where Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt will perform. Bhatt had also performed at the Royal Albert Hall, London, in July where Prince Charles was also present. The queen is to leave for Madras on the night of October 15.
In Madras, she is to visit the MGR film city, visit Ekambareswara temple in Kanchipuram and lay a wreath at the Rajiv Gandhi memorial at Sriperumbudur on October 16.
On October 17, she is to leave for Cochin, where she is to visit the St Francis church, the Jewish synagogue and a Mini colony, a British-aided home for street children. She is to return to Madras the next day, visit the Cheshire home and attend a reception in her honour at the deputy high commissioner's residence before taking off for London the same day.
