Guerillas kidnap CPI-M leader in Tripura

Guerillas of the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura kidnapped Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Ranjit Ghosh after killing a security guard and shooting at four others in Tripura's Dhalai district on Friday night.

The police said the heavily armed guerillas raided the CPI-M office at Manik Bhander in Dhalai district and abducted Ghosh. Two security guards of a CPI-M MLA present in the office and other partymen tried to stop the militants, who fired at them, killing one and injuring four others.

Assam Rifles and Central Reserve Police Force personnel have rushed to the spot and launched combing operations. Senior police, CRPF and Border Security Force officials have also rushed to the spot.

A red alert has been sounded in all the police stations in north Tripura and Dhalai districts in view of the incident. The state government has asked the BSF to keep a maximum vigil along the border to prevent the militants from taking shelter in Bangladesh territory.
