Naidu rejects CBI probe on 'college scam'

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu rejected the Congress demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into the alleged irregularities in granting permission to new engineering and medical colleges in the private sector.

Making a statement in the state assembly, Naidu said the Congress has been demanding CBI probes into "trivial" issues.

He also rejected Congress leader P Janardhan Reddy's allegation that the government had received huge kickbacks for granting permission to the new professional colleges.

The government was awaiting clearance of the Medical Council of India for creating 220 additional seats in the five existing medical colleges in the state, he said.

Naidu assured the House that 95 per cent of the seats in the new colleges would be filled up on the basis of reservation. Five per cent has been reserved for NRIs.
