Justice Verma's revelation rocks Rajya Sabha

All the major opposition parties and Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Najma Heptulla on Monday strongly urged the government to approach Supreme Court Chief Justice J C Verma to find out the names of ''gentlemen'' who had attempted to pressurise the court in the hawala case.

However, Information and Broadcasting Minister S Jaipal Reddy repeatedly said it should be left to the Chief Justice's discretion to disclose the names.

The minister said no member of the government was involved in pressuring the Chief Justice. As the identity of the persons is not known, the government had a limited role, he said.
