AP high court suspends order classifying scheduled castes
In a judgment of far-reaching consequences, Justice Syed Saadatulla Hussaini of the Andhra Pradesh high court on Monday suspended the operation of two government orders which attempted to classify the scheduled castes into four categories.
Justice Hussaini held that prima facie the state government had no competence to alter the reservations of the scheduled castes.
The state government brought into effect the two government orders
on June 7 and 7 in the wake of an agitation by Madigas, a
scheduled caste community.
