Vaghela's transparent gesture to the Opposition

In a rare display of administrative transparency, Gujarat Chief Minister Shankarsinh Vaghela on Monday handed over important documents pertaining to the small power projects agreement to Opposition leader Suresh Mehta.

This was in response to the allegations of corruption which Mehta had levelled against the state government.

The Opposition leader had claimed he would prove irregularities in the agreement if the chief minister handed over relevant papers, prompting Vaghela to invite Mehta to his chamber and offer him the documents.

Later, the chief minister asserted the government was stable and would complete its term with Congress support.

Vaghela said certain state Congress leaders were unhappy about the recent changes which the government made in the Urban Land Ceiling Act. But now, all doubts have been cleared and the Congress was positive in its response to the government.
