Date sent: Tue, 9 Dec 1997 10:07:06 -0600 I strongly oppose using the names of gods for shoes. The Clarks management should understand the religious sentiments of the Hindu community. Any company should not do this mistake in future.
Date sent: Tue, 9 Dec 1997 08:12:58 -0500 Here's what I think: Everywhere you look, Indian stores selling shoes, candy, etc., are named after gods like Krishna, Vishnu, etc. One doesn't see any stores in the Western world named after Jesus. Why can't we Indians fight about things without debasing our culture and religion by finding a comparable item in Western culture? Besides, why the ill-treatment of feet? What have they done wrong? I can't imagine what our bodies would do without them. It i time we accorded the same respect to our feet as we do the rest of our body parts. Sincerely, Let's fight more over why Vishnu's and Krishna's children are dying of poverty and starvation instead.
Date sent: Mon, 8 Dec 1997 17:08:20 -0500 I thought the article was hilarious! Rediff is definitely one of the best sites for Indians outside India (& within India). Keep up the good work. Meera
Date sent: Mon, 08 Dec 1997 12:05:17 -0600 Thanks for bringing this to the notice of people like me. The explanations offered by Clarks, the shoeakers in the UK, are ridiculous and deserve severe condemnation for adding insult to injury. The Hindu community should take recourse to court action for monetary fines along with an unconditional apology for hurt sentiments. For non-Hindus it is not easy to spell Hindu names, hence the explanation that the sales people thought of the names 'Krishna' and 'Vishnu' for labeling the shoes because these names occured to them out of the blue is unbelievable.
Date sent: Mon, 08 Dec 1997 12:07:29 -0500 Keith Vaz sums it up correctly about the etiquette of giving names. However, I think he should be more strong in his aproach. After all, I do not think Clarks just thought of these names and never bothered to know what it means. Therefore, I think this is an "intentional mistake" and should be addressed firmly.
Date sent: Wed, 26 Nov 1997 09:50:20 -0800 I would take the ex-rep's statements at face value. He is no longer in office and does not command much influence. His claim to fame was being in the Congress. The others disagree with him. Also recall he was the one who asked what happens to India if Kashmir leaves. A P Venkateswaran answered that the last time. Don't know what trial balloon he is floating now. Kashmir is part of India whether anybody says so or not. It is more important to bring the state into the mainstream and focus on the economy.
Date sent: Mon, 08 Dec 1997 20:08:06 -0600 I just wanted to congratulate you on the TERRIFIC job you folks have done with this site. It is such a delightful pleasure to read the articles here. Special thanx to Virendra Kapoor for the enjoyable, yet informative articles. Vidhi
Date sent: Mon, 8 Dec 1997 22:00:00 +0530 It must be shattering to be out in the 90s so often (esprcially 95 on debut). Dravid does not lose his head but is just a victim of the (cliche to be excused) "nervous 90s". It's bad luck of the highest order, be sure.
Date: Mon, 03 Nov 1997 14:53:43 -0800 Lord Desai has valid points to make and he does so with some force. It is time India took a look at some of his proposals and take up implementation.
Date: Sunday, December 07, 1997 7:58 PM Very good article. Rajindernath has been my favourite. It is good to know the other side of this gentleman comedian. Gaurang G Vaishnav Florida

Date: Saturday, December 06, 1997 10:19 PM Your article about Madhuri and Karisma is such a low blow. It seems this site hates Madhuri Dixit. I will have you know that DTPH is a BIG HIT and not an average hit like you imply. Please do keep up with the latest ratings on films. I don't appreciate such unkind words when they are not true. As a matter of fact, DTPH is still doing almost 100% collections in its 4th week. I realise that Karisma is near the top...and I don't deny that. But it is very rude and low to write such a distasteful article about Madhuri Dixit. Please refrain from using such negative language about any actor/actress. No wonder actors/actresses hate the media at times, because of such rude sites as yours. Write objective articles in the future....maybe then I will gain respect for your site.
Date: Saturday, December 06, 1997 2:18 AM I enjoyed reading the Santosh Sivan article. It is a good thing that more and more directors (especially from the South) are making real films, films which reflect true art and not some commercial hotchpotch. Santosh Sivan, Mani Ratnam, Shekhar Kapur and so many others have done a great job by for once leaving out the usual song and dance and bringing in something more real, more touching and a lot more professional.
