Will a 100 Tamil Nadu MLAs resign?

September 18, 2017  15:50
The DMK, the principal opposition party in Tamil Nadu, is playing its political card effectively. When the Speaker of Tamil Nadu assembly announced disqualifications of 18 MLAs loyal to TTV Dinakaran, the DMK informally decided to go for an en masse resignation of their 81 MLAs, thereby creating a political vacuum in the state. This will shake the delicate balance of power between E Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam. The DMK, which is vehemently opposed to Narendra Modi, will show its trump card at an opportune time. There is a possibility of eight Congress MLAs planning to submit their resignations if the Rahul Gandhi-approved alliance with the DMK works, taking the total resignations to nearly a 100.  Needless to say, the resignations will put the Centre and and the BJP in a tight spot and will put pressure for early elections in the state.
