Police station attacked, five militants killed in Kashmir

Troops killed five militants and nabbed four others while militants attacked a police station in the Kashmir valley on Tuesday.

An official spokesman said on Wednesday that militants attacked a police station in Kangan on the outskirts of Srinagar. Security forces camping there returned the fire and the exchange continued for half an hour. No one was hurt in the incident, he said.

A defence ministry spokesman said troops, during a fierce encounter, killed two militants at Doodragali in the frontier district of Kupuwara. Two AK 56 rifles and a pistol were recovered from the slain militants.

Troops also gunned down a militant at Awathwalnar in Kupwara and seized one assault rifle, one magazine and 26 rounds from his possession.
