Kashmir rains claim 2 lives
At least two people were drowned at Seer-Bug as water levels in the Jhelum river and its tributaries crossed the danger mark at several places due to torrential rains in the Kashmir valley since Tuesday morning.
Meanwhile, the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu National Highway has been closed due to landslides at Ramban and Banihal. The Srinagar-Anantnag road has also been closed as a two-km stretch at Awantipura has been under flood water since Wednesday morning.
Official sources said the water level in the Jhelum river has crossed the danger mark at Sangam inundating several villages.
Several villages were also cut off from the rest of the valley
due to the floods.
It is still raining heavily and the weather office has forecast
further rain during the next 24 hours in the valley.
