Extremists lynched in Manipur
An extremist died and another was injured when they were lynched by the people at Sangaiprou in Imphal, early on Tuesday, the police said. One of them escaped.
The trio had tried to extort money from the house of M Gyameshwar Singh. When Singh raised the alarm, the local people gathered and beat up the extremists, killing one of them.
In another incident a body was recovered today at Langmeidong Laimanai under Kokehing police station.
Meanwhile, an extremist was killed in an encounter with the army at Lumang Sangol, 20 km north east of Sekmai police station on Monday, the police said.
The army was on a patrol when some militants fired at them. The army returned the fire and in the ensuing crossfire B Ramumar, a member of the underground organisation, was killed.
An AK-56 rifle, 30 rounds of ammunition, cash and incriminating documents were seized from him.
