CPI-M leader shot dead in Tripura

Underground tribal guerillas shot dead a Communist Party of India-Marxist activist, injured two others and kidnapped a landlord in Tripura on Sunday night.

Official sources said on Monday that heavily armed guerillas raided a market at Santirbazaar in Dhalai district and opened fire, killing CPI-M leader Khokan Shil. Two others, who were injured critically in the attack, were later admitted to the government hospital.

Before escaping the militants looted shops.

In another incident, militants abducted a landlord at gunpoint at Jolaibari in south Tripura. Security forces have launched a search operation to rescue him.
