4 soldiers, Bodo militant killed in Assam encounter

Union Home Secretary K Padmanabhaiah on Saturday reviewed the law and order situation in Assam at a high-level meeting in Guwahati while four army jawans of 13 Regiment and a Bodo extremist were killed in an encounter at Phulaguri village in Sonitpur district on Friday night.

An official report said an army patrol was returning after a search operation when suspected militants of the Bodo Security Force fired at them. The jawans returned the fire and in the ensuing encounter four jawans and an extremist were killed.

Top civil, police and army officials rushed to the spot with additional forces and launched a combing operation.

Another report said suspected Bodo militants shot dead two people in Barpeta district on Friday.
