Two top cops in J & K housing scam

Jammu and Kashmir Minister of State for Home Ali Mohammad Sagar has alleged that two top police and vigilance officers had embezzled huge sums of money earmarked for constructing huts.

Sagar told the state assembly on Wednesday that the Rs 45.5 million project, involving the construction of huts, latrines and bath rooms, dates back to 1990-91, when the state was under President's rule.

Refusing to give details of an enquiry by the state vigilance department, the minister said the relevant files were missing from the police and vigilance departments.

When members insisted that the officials's name be disclosed, Sagar said it would be improper to do so as the matter was still under investigation.
