'Indian, Pak PMs must meet in the US'
US Ambassador in Pakistan Thomos Symons says his country is considering a proposal to invite
the prime ministers of India and Pakistan to the United States to conduct free and frank talks to sort out their differences.
In an interview, Symons said this would give both leaders an opportunity to discuss the issues confronting their two countries.
The US ambassador said talks were in progress to finalise Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharief's visit to the United States. Symons said Pakistan's apprehensions on the outcome of the
talks with American leaders were baseless. At the same time, he
said, there was no need to cherish too much expectations.
Sharief is expected to visit the United States in September to attend the
UN General Assembly session. He also planned
to have bilateral talks with US leaders.
The Pakistan daily, the Dawn reported late last week that Pakistan Ambassador Riaz Khokhar had left for Islamabad to persuade Sharief to postpone his US visit as the mood did not favour it.
