Roaming around the stage, snapping candid shots of cellists and violinists and of Mehta weaving his spell, was scriptwriter and photographer Sooni Taraporevala. Mehta introduced her to his colleagues as the woman who created the book that every Parsi boy must have (Parsis: the Zoroastrians of India -- A Photographic Journey) Taraporevala has taken some fine shots of Mehta for this book too.
The rehearsal breaks up at 11ish. Zarin Mehta, Zubin's more portly younger brother and the executive director New York Philharmonic Orchestra offers his thanks as well to the musicians for coming to India to honour their father's memory.
And Khushroo Suntook, Zubin's old school pal and a Tata director marvelled over the history of the occasion -- of world famous musicians gathering to honour Mehli Mehta.
