Nepal king walks out of palace at midnight

May 30, 2008

Nepal's deposed king Gyanendra left the Narayanhiti Palace in Kathmandu on Thursday midnight.

"There was the caravan of three/four cars and some trucks at 12.45 am (local time)," the local media reported.

Former king Gyanendra and his family members have reportedly left for Nirmal Niwas, Maharajgunj, approximately three miles north of the palace.

Nirmal Niwas is his private residence. The new Nepal government has nationalised all the palaces used by the royals in the past.
