Over 200 beauties were rolled out for the Haig-VCCCI Vintage Car and Motorcycle Fiesta 2008 on February 24 in Mumbai.
That's a generous number for vintage-garee-wallahs to ogle over. Rolls. Porsches. Dodges. Jaguars. Rovers. Ferraris. Bentleys. Lamborghinis. Fords. Plenty of Mercedes, an old Indian favourite. A tangerine-orange VW Beetle. A number of motorcycles. And more.
A maroon and black, British-made, 1908 Wolseley, the oldest car entered, took home the trophy. Incidentally Wolseleys came into being when a young works manager of a Buckinghamshire sheep shearing firm, named Herbert Austin, decided to start designing and producing cars in the late 1800s. The Wolseley showcased at the Mumbai rally would have been one of the first few automobiles manufactured by Austin's outfit.
