We have so far not found out what he did for three days in Roha," said Inspector Patil.
The police are also trying to find out which hotels in Goa Bennett stayed in and with whom he was staying.
In view of Maurin's revelations the case has now been transferred to the state Crime Branch, which will reinvestigate the case.
The villagers of Malsai bring out newspaper clippings to show that Bennett had a friend with him in Goa and that the police are not probing that angle.
"He had come with a friend to India but no one is bothering to probe that angle. That person left India a week before his death. Our boys have been wrongly arrested," says a villager on condition of anonymity.
"The inquiry has gone to a higher level. There will be better state to state coordination to find more details in the case," added Inspector Patil.
Till then all the accused are in judicial custody. And the truth, somewhere out there.
