Welcoming Ma Durga

Tanya Munshi, Mumbai offers her photograph of the Borivli Durga Puja

She says: this Durga Puja is organised by the Sanskriti Bengali Association, of which my family is a member. Durga Puja is an occasion for us Bengalis to wear the best of clothes and jewellery, meet up with family and friends and spend the entire three to four days festival completely enjoying ourselves.

It is probably one of the most infectious festivals where even non-Bengalis flock the pandals to catch a glimpse of the goddess.

She adds: The celebration of Durga Puja symbolises the Goddess Durga visiting the Earth to her mother's place, along with her two sons -- Ganesh and Kartik and two daughters -- Saraswati and Lakshmi.

Right behind Ma Durga you can see a picture of Lord Shiva (Goddess Durga's husband), overlooking his family during their visit.

Durga Puja is never complete without puspanjali (flower offerings and prayers) and bhog. When the dhak (drum) plays, your feet will tap to its beats, even though your eyes are shut in deep prayer.

If you missed it this year, fret not. In the coming year, Goddess Durga will bless us with another visit and will from that time on draw you to her for the years to come.

Send us your pics of Ma Durga
