A lot of rage, a little Rang De

May 25, 10 am: Noise

"Desh ke neta," yells someone into the microphone. "Hai Hai," shrieks the crowd in response.

As the sun climbs higher and the heat gets more and more oppressive, the quadrangle begins to fill. Students, resident doctors, research scholars, journalists, teachers -- they keep pouring in. Individuals, and representative groups from Maulana Azad Medical College, Lady Hardinge Medical College, Vardhman Mahavir Medical College, University College of Medical Sciences, IIT Delhi, Sir Gangaram Hospital, Delhi Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research, Delhi Public School, Indira Gandhi National Open University, Swami Dayanand Hospital, Departments of Business Economics and the Faculty of Law from Delhi University, Gardi College, National Medical Association...

Some recite poetry. Others quote from inspirational texts. Still others make random statements about how reservation is wrong and how OBCs may one day get away with murder. There's even a student of class 10 who has just given his board exams. They take turns at the microphone, the gaps between each speaker punctuated by applause.
