Birthday message for Rahul Gandhi

Poor Congressmen only know that Rahul will one fine day become general secretary. How? Because, when the media asked Mrs Gandhi if Rahul will join her team, she said, "Yes, that is possible."

In that case, why is it taking so long?

The answer that has percolated from 10, Janapth is: there is no hurry.

A Congress leader who has been close to the Gandhi-Nehru family for decades said never in the past has any member of the family shown any hurry in taking up top positions.

After Sanjay Gandhi's death when Rajiv entered politics, he was parked for three years in the party. And after Rajiv's death when the Congress party requested Sonia to accept the top post she plunged in only after seven years. It's a different matter that nevertheless, in that period party politics was conducted around her and as per her wish.

The Gandhi-Nehrus have some kind of confidence that if and when they take a decision it will be appropriate and at the most apt time.

It's a matter of worry for Congress leaders in Uttar Pradesh that when the highly-important assembly elections are just six-seven months away, there is an astonishing absence of any political move by Rahul Gandhi.
