Dutch F-16s escorted a Mumbai-bound flight from Minnesota, US to Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport on Wednesday, and authorities detained several passengers for questioning. Dutch police arrested 12 passengers from the flight for Mumbai. The airlines statement said, the flight from Amsterdam to Mumbai with 149 passengers on board was returned to Amsterdam after a couple of passengers "displayed behaviour of concern".On Thursday, the Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma said in New Delhi said all the 12 persons detained in Amsterdam following the security alert on the plane were Mumbai-born.
All 12 were released later on Thursday after Dutch authorities cleared them of the suspicion of act of terrorism.
Some of the passengers of the Mumbai-bound flight who were stranded at the Amsterdam airport reached Mumbai on Thursday night.
The Netherlands has assured India that it will furnish by Saturday evening complete details on the incident involving detention of 12 Indians mid-air while travelling to Mumbai.
